How squzzing my boobs may make me a better knitter...
I left you all as I left my office...excited about running by the LYS (that I had just found out we had) before going to honor my high school friend, Staci by having my boobs squzzed. I'll pick up my story here.Let me just say...having my boobs squzzed and photographed was a happier experience than the 20 minutes I spent at the LYS. I walk in and ask if there was someone who I could schedule some time with for some knitting lessons. "Sure!" Well, the lady who was about 70 years old proceeds to tell me that she had been knitting for 69 years. She was sure that she could teach me. Within minutes, she was sure that I would never learn to knit. First I showed her my cast on stitches...and she immediately ripped them out (right along with my heart, I might add) and said they weren't right. Then she shows me how to cast on...but when I sit down to do it...she says I'm doing it backwards...or something like that. Then she says..."You're left handed? I guess I can't teach someone who's left handed." You mean to tell me...you own a knitting store...you teach knitting...and you've been knitting for 69 years...and I'm going to be the first person that you can't teach? I left that store...heart-broken...all hopes dashed and ready to pack up all my knitting stuff and send it to the first person who wanted it. I think I even cried on the way to the hospital.
Anyhoo, I guess some things happen for a reason because I really deep down wanted to learn so I pulled my needles and yarn out while I was waiting for my mammogram. A lady I know works at the imaging center and saw me. I tell her my ordeal. I tell her I'm left handed. I tell her I will never learn to knit because the lady at the yarn store who's been knitting for 69 years says I'm unteachable. I'm heart-broken. CC sits down beside me and shows me how to cast on correctly, using two needles in a matter of minutes. Then to make a long story short...she came over to my house yesterday and taught me the knit stitch. CC is my angel. I practiced last night...and I've got something to show for it. It has a few little holes...but for the most part it's pretty good. (But of course, I may not should say that because I thought that I could cast on pretty good until Old Knitting Woman told me I couldn't.) I love it. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow.
Oh, and as for the mammo...Ladies...this test that took less than ten minutes saved my friend,Staci's, life. It's not terribly painful...and it could save your life. Please schedule one today.
Much love, Marybeth
